Family-owned enterprises are the backbone of the Canadian economy, with some 800,000 businesses representing 50% of the private sector GDP.
Family Enterprise Canada (FEC) is a dynamic national community of business families and certified Family Enterprise Advisors focused on ensuring the health and growth of the sector remains strong and providing a unified voice for the community. The organization sets the standards and delivers the education program to become certified as a Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) and provides ongoing professional development and events to support the network.
In recent years, FEC has been running three cohorts with 75 to 100 graduates each year who have fulfilled the requirements to obtain their Family Enterprise Advisor designation. Today, there are over 400 FEA’s who represent a broad range of practice areas and expertise supporting family enterprise.
National Director, FEA Education & Programs
As the FEC network expands, and with the recent shift to more online delivery of education, the organization is well positioned for growth. This may include expanding the program into the United States and other markets, creating more customized programs, developing mini certifications that will build upon learning in the FEA program to deepen knowledge in specific areas, and partnering with other organizations.
The National Director, FEA Education & Programs (Director) will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and have a strong focus on business development and expanding programs. A part of the senior leadership team, the Director will take the lead in developing growth strategy that will support the success of advisor programs. They will also work closely with marketing to leverage and promote the brand. The Director will support and mentor three direct reports – Manager of Advisor Programs; Business Development Manager; and a Coordinator – and work closely with a contract Academic Director who is focused on course content and the designation process.
Requirements
An authentic and transparent communicator, the Director will be a proven leader who can inspire and mentor others and will possess exceptional community and relationship building skills. Preferably based in Toronto, the ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree and a minimum of seven plus years of senior leadership experience. Proven skills in business development and establishing professional partnerships, and sharp financial and business acumen is essential. Knowledge of family enterprise is highly desirable.
