Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre has an opportunity for a Health Care Aide (HCA) to join our team. As an HCA at our rural hospital you will work on our Goal (Goal Oriented active living unit) and provide support to acute care and ER as needed. You will be a vital part of our collaborative health care team. Previous experience will be valuable in transitioning to your role, however you will be provided with mentorship and education opportunities to increase competence and confidence in your role. You will be expected to provide safe and competent care to our patients in a collaborative, family centered care approach. As a member of our team you will be flexible in what area of the hospital you work in as priorities will change rapidly between each unit. Ponoka, which means Elk in Blackfoot serves a large First Nations community. Our town is located along Highway 2 in the Battle River Valley within an hour drive to major cities. Our community provides a great opportunity for families, adventurists, and people wanting a rural life. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services and by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many AHS employees are restricted to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic. Speak to the hiring manager who will confirm if, as the successful candidate in this position, you will be restricted to work at only one LTC/DLS site in Alberta.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered.
