Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre has an exciting opportunity in a high performing team based environment for the RDRHC Emergency Department. Reporting to the manager of the Emergency Department, the Assistant Head Nurse (AHN)-Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for patient flow into, through and out of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC). Participating as an active member of the inter professional healthcare team, the AHN- Patient Access Coordinator works collaboratively ensuring that the appropriate and effective plans are in place to ensure the patient receives timely care interventions and is ready for discharge as soon as medically able. The AHN-Patient Access Coordinator works with the healthcare team to ensure the treatments, assessments, care implementations and discharge planning occur at the appropriate time and delays in service are reported and resolved. You must demonstrate the ability to consistently maintain and facilitate effective relationships within an interdisciplinary setting. You possess the ability to effectively demonstrate leadership and accountability of the inpatient units with respect to planning each day of care for all patients. To be successful in this role, You will require strong negotiation skills and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with the patient and their family to create a discharge plan and facilitate the transition of patients from an inpatient to an outpatient setting. Promote professional working relationships by using proper channels of communication and positively managing situations involving inter-personal conflict and respecting others’ opinions, judgments, and abilities.

Description:

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

A baccalaureate degree within the specific health care profession required. Advanced education in quality improvement, patient flow desired. 5 – 10 years experience in an acute care clinical setting is required. Demonstrated leadership ability. Excellent ability to work effectively on healthcare teams Moderate computer skills required. Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum one (1) years’ experience in the last five (5) year’s Medical/Surgical and/or Emergency Department experience. Leadership and/or facilitation experience preferred. -Current ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, and Lead 2 interpretation. -Demonstrate ongoing responsibility for maintaining and growing continuing competence through professional development activities. -Ability to work shift work. -Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. -Previous committee participation.
