The Islands Trust Area is a special place – a scenic archipelago of 13 major islands and more than 450smaller islands, democratically represented by 26 locally elected trustees. At the local level, much of the work of the Islands Trust is carried out by local trust committees, a special-purpose form of local government, given authority for land use planning and regulation under BC’s Local Government Act and Islands Trust Act. Local trust committees develop and adopt Official Community Plans and land use bylaws for each local trust area to carry out the policies expressed in the Islands Trust Policy Statement.

At the regional level, the Islands Trust Council has overall responsibilities for carrying out the Islands Trust’s provincial object. It is responsible for creating the Islands Trust Policy Statement that guides the content of Official Community Plans and land use regulations throughout the Islands Trust Area. Each term, it adopts a strategic plan to focus efforts in some priority areas related to the goals of the Policy Statement and adopts an annual budget to support planned activities.

About the Job:

Under the supervision of the Director of Trust Area Services, the Program Coordinator coordinates regional programs such as the Island Trust’s housing agreements and community stewardship awards programs. The Program Coordinator also supports the delivery of diverse and multi-faceted communications, advocacy and land protection programs through activities such as project management, research, arranging public program logistics. The Programs Coordinator will support communication about the Islands Trust’s programs and activities by developing and maintaining content for websites and social media channels and by training staff on posting to and maintaining the website and social media channels. The Program Coordinator will also draft and proofread correspondence and materials, and undertake general administrative duties for the unit. This position requires advanced organizational, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills and the employee must have the ability to organize and independently manage workload taking into consideration changing priorities, tight deadlines and a high volume of work.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Diploma in business administration, public administration, communications or another related program area ORAn equivalent combination ofeducation, trainingand/or experiencemay be considered.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience independently managing projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Experience using website content management systems and social media tools.
  • Advanced experience with standard Microsoft Office software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat) is required.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Recent experience writing and editing communications materials, especially online content.
  • Experience delivering training.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Project management training and/or experience.

Provisos:

  • Must be willing to work overtime, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel to the Gulf Islands.
  • Possession and maintenance of a Class 5 BC Drivers’ License.
