Job Description
The Vice President, Audit Services is accountable for the oversight and delivery of high quality, professional, efficient, beneficial and risk-based internal audit services for General Account, Global Asset Management, Global Private Assets, Risk Management functions (including Financial Risk and Credit Risk) and Compliance functions for these businesses. In this role you will also have the responsibility of presenting to the combined Board for the MIMPM and HNRG legal entities as well as to other subsidiary legal entity boards as required.
As part of our Audit Services function, you’ll contribute by working with management at all levels to improve the management of controllable risks, and provide a service to senior management and the Board of Directors by providing reports which assist them in discharging their responsibilities for overseeing the management of risk in Manulife.
Job Requirements:
Review of business adherence to the strategic priorities and established risk tolerance levels as part of performing business audits
Understand the risk management profile of common units in areas of responsibility and monitor these profiles to identify emerging risks
Understand the company’s strategy, operations, and regulatory environment to proactively identify areas of emerging and heightened risk that affect the company
Provide leadership on ways to further improve the effectiveness, efficiency and consistency of audit services across all segments
Define and implement audit strategy that supports business and audit services strategies, provides sufficient coverage for key risks while meeting regulatory expectations
Continuous improvement of the delivery and quality to improve efficiencies through increased use of data analytics as well as innovative audit strategies
Drive innovation and incorporate and develop industry best practices into a forward thinking audit approach
Provide Segment ELT and GLT members, CFOs and business unit Senior Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents with objective and reliable assessments of the adequacy of risk management practices within their segments and provide valuable and practical recommendations to improve risk management practices
Assist business unit management to discharge their responsibilities by providing risk management consulting support, education and training, and by maintaining a business-partner relationship
Plan and direct special audit projects identified by audit or requested by senior management
Contribute to the development of Audit Services policies, strategy and direction; continually improve audit and administration processes using technology to the fullest
Manage Audit Services’ resources efficiently, economically and effectively
Draft relevant sections of MFC Audit Committee reports for review by Chief Auditor
Oversee preparation and presentation of reports to Audit Committees of subsidiary companies for MIMPM and HNRG legal entities, and handle the regulatory expectations
Recruit high-calibre staff and provide appropriate development and training
Foster a creative culture that strives for continuous improvement and welcomes and offers feedback, enabling best-in-class audit practices; challenge, coach and enable the team members to develop to their fullest and maximize their contribution to the team
Deliver annual SOX work in collaboration with Management, SOX PMO and COEs and external audit
Establish a high level of credibility and build professional relationships with senior internal partners
Provide relevant stakeholders with an overview of audit work and commentary on the control environment, including trends and emerging issues that could impact the Company
Partner and collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders in WAM, General Account, and Risk
Asia Wealth Management Audits with VP Investments who have joint relationship responsibility for EVP Asia Wealth & Asset Management
Financial Risk and Credit Risk Management Audits with VP Insurance and Actuarial who has joint relationship responsibility for Risk audits
University degree plus a recognized accounting (CA, CPA, CMA, CGA) designation is preferred, with 15 years business experience including 6 years at a management level

Leadership and management skills in achieving departmental, project and individual objectives, and in developing staff

The ability to balance multiple priorities and projects with strong attention to detail while retaining focus on the “big picture” and top risks

Manage business unit management’s expectations regarding assurance and advisory work deadlines and results

Meet audit plan commitments while maintaining flexibility in audit schedules to meet changing priorities
Drive continuous improvement in quality and cost efficiency of services provided
Keep current with new audit techniques, company policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and knowledge of the insurance and wealth management industry
