Hours: UP TO 22.5 HOURS PER WEEK
Salary/Rate: $44.50 – 55.63 PER HOUR
Status: TEMPORARY PART-TIME (approx 10 months)

The scope of research and complexity of cases at Toronto General Hospital have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. It has one of the largest hospital-based research programs in Canada, with major research in transplantation, surgical innovation, cardiology, infectious diseases, genomic medicine and liver disease. .
As an integral member of the General Internal Medicine team the CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of program based and central programs that impact practice. The responsibilities include: utilizing theoretical and clinical expertise in a specialty area to facilitate the provision of direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families with complex situations within the in-patient and community settings; contributing to the education and professional development of nursing/interdisciplinary staff, students and the professional community within area of specialization; participating in academic and research projects; performing administrative responsibilities; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
The CNS, utilizing advanced knowledge of a patient population and their care needs, associated processes of care, and a systems and professional practice perspective, plays a key leadership role in programmatic, organizational and professional initiatives—both internal and external to the organization. These activities include: leadership in clinical practice; in facilitating the research process; policy and procedure development and evaluation; design, implementation and evaluation of innovative processes of care and other quality initiatives; professional, patient and multidisciplinary education; and activities that strengthen and further develop the nursing profession. Consistent with the mission, vision and values of UHN, and as a developing or acknowledged nurse leader in their field, the CNS effectively functions as a role model, resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the organization, the external professional community and other external agencies. To realize the full scope and potential of the role, the CNS has the support of and works in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, and all levels of organizational leadership—professional, administrative and executive.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a masters degree in Nursing or recognized equivalent
- Five (5) years experience in an acute care center with clinical General Internal Medicine nursing
- Experience in nursing research methodology
- Completion of International Inter-professional Wound Care Course
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
- Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other organizations relevant to the role
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
