Our client, a startup in the cannabis industry is looking for a Cost and General Accountant to join their team. Reporting directly to the Controller, the successful candidates will have excellent collaboration skills and the attention to detail necessary to ensure accurate reporting in all areas.
Responsibilities:
Work with the operations and manufacturing team to develop and maintain product standard and actual costing. This includes developing material consumption rates, labour rates and overhead rates.
Work with sales and operations to establish standard cost targets and work to reduce costs to achieve standard so products are profitable
Prepare regular reporting to review with the operations and finance team variance between actual and standard cost
Prepare monthly journal entries for costing and inventory valuation
Conduct inventory reserve analysis on a quarterly basis and generate reports for management
Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts
Review rates of depreciation, labour and overhead and prepare variance analysis
Classify costs accurately according to IFRS
Generate PPV reports and analyze findings
Analyze costs of raw materials and other supplies and create cost-benefit analyses for changing scenarios
All fixed asset and lease accounting including maintaining fixed asset and lease subledger and preparing continuity schedules for external reporting purposes
Track the compilation of project costs (assets under construction) into fixed asset accounts, and close out those accounts once the related projects have been completed.
Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger.
Calculate depreciation for all fixed assets within SAP
Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets/lease and accumulated depreciation
Conduct periodic impairment reviews for intangible and fixed assets
Qualifications:
CPA or near completion
University business degree
6+ years’ experience in general accounting or cost accounting
Prior experience in multi-location company with intercompany transactions would be an asset
Experience in a manufacturing environment is a must
Strong manufacturing costing background is a must
Experience with SAP would be an asset
Champions integrity and trust, coupled with strong work-ethics and can multi-task and juggle multiple priorities simultaneously
Displays self-awareness and ability to deal with ambiguity
Good communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and organization skills with ability to execute
Good understanding of accounting standards and policies
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively
