Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practices as a team member and works to full scope of practice, independently providing nursing care to individuals with stable health conditions and predictable health outcomes, and consulting and practicing with other healthcare professionals when caring for individuals with unstable conditions and/or unpredictable health outcomes.

The duties of the LPN will be carried out in accordance with the principles and practices that guide Nova Scotia Health.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved School of Practical Nursing
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
  • Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
  • Minimum one (1) year recent nursing experience relevant to the above specified unit preferred
  • Must be at full scope of LPN practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with patients/residents, families, other health care providers and staff, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, supervise patient/resident care and be accountable for decisions
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Basic computer skills, Meditech an asset
  • Physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position such as fine motor dexterity and ability to adjust to varying workloads
  • Must be able to perform duties that involve lifting, bending and stretching
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
