The Opportunity

This is a part-time, hourly position for the right candidate to start as a Maintenance Assistant and grow into the Maintenance Coordinator role in the future.

The Maintenance Assistant reports to the Maintenance Coordinator and is accountable for the support and maintenance of the facilities and building relationships / coordinating with the vendors (with time based on the training success/progress).

POSITION-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Hands-on Maintenance Assistant:

  • Regular maintenance and repair of the hand tools and equipment
  • Regular facilities inspection

Maintenance Coordinator-in training duties:

  • Coordinate the operations and maintenance of facilities (e.g. electrical, HVAC, plumbing, building automation, fire detection and suppression, security and communication systems, parking lots etc.)
  • Follow and regularly review/adjust the Preventative Maintenance Program (PMP) for the facilities
  • Liaison between the different shop departments and providing for their needs
  • Manage and administer vendor contracts to ensure compliance with contractual terms
  • Looking for cost-effective and quality solutions for the facilities maintenance
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities for compliance, performance, safety and asset integrity
  • Oversee annual equipment inspections/repairs
  • Follow-up on the repairs status and cost
  • Maintain relevant documentation, schedules and prepare standard reports

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & EDUCATION

  • 5+ years or related maintenance experience
  • Tradesperson with a journeyman ticket (preferred)
  • Experience in the manufacturing environment is a strong asset

SKILLS

  • Basic to intermediate computer skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Ability to meet goals in a fast-paced, changing environment and under pressure
  • Self-starter – able to identify and execute work that needs to be done with minimal direction
