Do you love the ability to have flexible hours and work in a hybrid fashion? Are you looking initially for more of a part time role where your employer works with you on your needs for flexibility?

We are looking to support our client in their efforts to add a part-time Controller to their workforce who will both work from their home and client sites to assist in serving their clients with financial – Controller – services. This role will be quite flexible in working hours. If you are not a fan of the craziness of tax season – another bonus – this is not a part of this job!

Our client has been providing accounting and business solutions to its clientele since 1994 and has an excellent reputation for caring deeply – not only for the client – but for their employees. They offer hands on experience namely to industries like construction and real estate development, manufacturing and retail pharmacy, and provide services including controllership-for-hire roles including forecasting, support for various government registrations and audits, financing, inventory controls and purchasing and so much more. Their clients have revenues that range between 5 million to 20 million. Typically, clients of this business are within a 60k radius of Paris ON.

Job Description

  • The part time Controller will provide ongoing controller services to corporate clients which include but are not limited to the following:
  • Managing accounting operations including items like journal entries, payroll, AP, AR and statutory reporting
  • Month end preparation and/or review, monthly statements and annual reports, external reporting to financial institutions meeting requirements
  • Forecasting activities
  • Monitoring internal controls while ensuring all accounting activities are in accordance with legal and regulatory and company policies and procedures
  • Preparation of annual operating budgets as required
  • Identify operating costs, variances and develop performance and variance analyses while working with internal departments to improve processes that impact customer quality
  • Analyze and recommend processes to improve the client’s controls and bottom line
  • Act as a resource for advice and guidance on all accounting related subject matter including financial systems, record keeping, analysis and reporting
  • Coordinate year-end financial statements, and coordinate with external accounting firm
  • End of calendar year T4 and T5’s
  • Administer government remittances and reporting as required
  • Liaison with banking institutions to meet reporting requirements and assist in negotiating annual requirements
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • CPA with experience in private industry
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a Controller fashion
  • Knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management
  • Experience with Manufacturing, Construction and other industries
  • Must have experience with Inventory and WIP
  • Financial analysis, budgeting and potentially strategic planning experience
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and application
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and analysis techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local requirements
  • Should have an entrepreneurial outlook on business while keeping clients in compliance
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel
  • Good project management skills
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move forward
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple ERP systems with a focus on continual improvement of reporting tailored to the client’s needs
  • Positive, upbeat, can-do attitude

Education:

  • University degree in business or accounting preferred

Additional Information

This role will initially start with a minimum of 20 hours per week and more hours may be available as the company continues to grow.
