Position Summary:

The Centre for Media, Technology, and Democracy is looking for junior researchers to join a project focused on understanding the Quebec information ecosystem with a specific focus on mis and disinformation and the next Quebec Provincial Election.

Successful candidates should be comfortable with qualitative research methods, various social media platforms, and key debates in Quebec and Canadian politics. Candidates should have some familiarity with contemporary scholarship on elections, social media, and mis and disinformation in the Quebec and Canadian context.

Proposed activities:

  • Attend regular meetings with project team
  • Review traditional and social media content seeking inauthentic and/or false or misleading information
  • Investigate origin and reach of particular pieces of information
  • Support the preparing of summary report

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate student in in Political Science, Media Studies, Journalism, Communication Studies, or cognate field (preferably in 3rd or final year)
  • Strong writing skills
  • Knowledge and interest in social media platforms, media and Quebec politics
  • French-speaking and familiarity with the Quebec media environment

Hourly Salary: $20.00

Hours per Week: 10 (Part time)

Location: Sherbrooke 680
