Reporting to the Vice President Inter Hospital Services for C&W the Director, Patient Support Services and Strategic Initiatives is a key member of the Inter Hospital management team and is responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of Patient Support Services including preferred accommodation, and patient transport services family residency program and Volunteer Services, Spiritual Care, and Sterile Reprocessing. The Director is responsible for Strategic Initiatives that impact the flow of patients, staff and goods and services on the site, and ensures the effective and efficient operation of patient support services that includes inter facility initiatives that enhance the site as provincial resource. Develops strategic plans and goals, collaborates and coordinates action plans with others in planning and implementing complex and diverse initiatives, oversees contracts and all business development initiatives on the site including the negotiation of retail services, and coordinates quality improvement activities.

What you’ll do

  • Develop strategic plans, goals and annual objectives for the portfolio, providing leadership and support to staff in developing individual program plans including the development and implementation of proposals for new or expanded programs or redistribution of resources within the portfolio. Ensure these plans are consistent with and complement the organization’s overall strategic plan. Develop and deploy mechanisms for monitoring program performance and monitor progress in achieving performance. Communicate program and unit strategic direction incorporating Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and BCW and BCCH vision, values and strategic direction and ensure integration into practice
  • Oversee all Business development initiatives on the site notably the negotiation of retail services. Implement, manage, and enhance the preferred accommodation programs to achieve or exceed financial targets as established including implementing an audit program and financial and customer service measures. Maintain a close liaison with Hospitality Networks (VistaCare), Bed Utilization and the nurse clinicians who assign beds. Manage the contract with the vendor. Coordinate quality improvement activities and the management of policies and procedures supporting departmental activities.
  • Provide leadership to supervisory staff, define an effective workforce plan, identify and support training needs and staff development, and evaluate individual and team performance in collaboration with appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Develop, recommend and manage an annual operating budget, and approve the budgets of subordinates and ensure adherence to the budget.
  • Manage the Provincial Infant Transport Service through effective liaison with the BC Ambulance Service and the clinical teams at BCCH and BCWH, Spiritual Care and Volunteer Services and their alignment with Patient family and staff support, Sterile Processing Department and the achievement of quality standards, and provide administrative oversight of the Provincial RSV Immunoprophalysis Program in BC.
  • Establish project plans and outline timelines and deliverables. Execute project plans, ensure successful and coordinated completion of project components, consult with stakeholders as needed, and ensure readiness for implementation. Track and report project progress and major barriers encountered. Make recommendations regarding projects scope and related changes required to facilitate a successful outcome. Implement or contribute to the implementation of effective processes to assess project risks, identify risk mitigation strategies and monitor risk throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a masters Degree in a relevant health care profession
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of recent related clinical and progressive leadership experience, including at least two (2) years in a managerial/leadership role
  • Current registration/membership with a professional college.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate team work, inter-agency co-ordination and inter-disciplinary communication
  • Demonstrated creativity and originality in problem resolution and the ability to facilitate dialogue between various groups
  • Broad understanding of the clinical care process and multidisciplinary health care provision
  • Proven experience in all aspects of budget development, management and variance analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of organizational redesign, change management and process management

What you bring

  • A Master’s degree in Health Administration, or Business Administration with a focus on health care, or other health related field, and ten (10) years experience that includes two (2) years in a coaching/coordinating role in a health care environment combined with five experience in a supporting role in program management or health care delivery.

  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and/or database programs and ability to utilize a computerized patient care information system.
