Job description: Your Opportunity:

This position works as a member of an interdisciplinary team and reports to the Care Manager of Addiction and Mental Health Housing. The team supports the Rapid Housing Initiative within the City of Edmonton that includes 5 sites. The initiative is administered by Homeward Trust was initiated by the city of Edmonton to provide housing and supports to vulnerable houseless populations. The Addiction & Mental Health Therapist (AMHT) is primarily responsible for direct in reached clinical service to clients using individual and/or group treatment to individuals residing in the RHI sites.This can include consultation with residents and staff within the sites. The AMHT will provide screening, assessment, treatment and referral of individuals with complex mental health, substance use and/or behavioural health disorders or conditions. Individuals receiving treatment may also have social health needs or problems that require intervention and/or case management. The AMHT will also serve as a bridge between long term clinical services that clients may be connected to. The AMHT is a concurrent therapist capable of addressing complex mental health and substance related or addictive disorders or conditions. The AMHT will have knowledge, skills and abilities to provide treatment in both areas of practice. The AMHT will be proficient in risk assessment and behavioral and crisis management and safety planning. Experience working with individuals who have experienced poverty, homelessness, marginalization, trauma, and complex mental health and addiction disorders will be an asset. The AMHT will work collaboratively with the client, family and significant others as identified by the client including the client’s family physician.

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Psychology; or master’s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master’s or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master’s degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college. Additional Required Qualifications:

Consideration will also be given to Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a related Master’s degree including training and considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or, considerable experience in mental health assessment and treatment. Critical thinking skills, advanced knowledge of addictions, mental illness and evidence based, evidence informed treatment (including risk assessment, crisis management, concurrent disorders treatment, harm reduction approaches). Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum of 3 years of relevant mental health experience. Ability to ambulate, climb stairs, and move quickly without limitations in a variety of environments. Extensive knowledge of the resources of Addiction and Mental Health and the community. Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license as work-related travel is required. You should be flexible, innovative, observant and enthusiastic, with good communication and self-management skills in an interdisciplinary team environment Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to work well with a range of community and agency stakeholders as well as clients and families.
