SNC-Lavalin is looking for a Senior Electronics Technologist to report to the Engineering Supervisor. This key role will be responsible for providing design Agent Services and technical support to KINGSTON Class, ORCA Class and Auxiliary vessels. Working with a dynamic design team in a hybrid office and remote setting.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Perform electronics engineering studies and design functions, failure investigations and analysis, technical evaluations, cost estimates, and option analysis for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment and systems.
  • Conduct regulatory review and assess the impact on the vessels of amendments to Transport Canada, SOLAS, Lloyd’s Rules and ABS.
  • Conduct vessel surveys as related to Communication, Navigation and Combat Systems equipment.
  • Provide internal support and consultation to the operations department in Halifax, NS and Esquimalt, BC.
  • Provide technical support to operations waterfront team.
  • Conduct basic project management duties. Provide monthly project updates but not limited to report to the client including cost, schedule and risks.
  • Provide oversight for the Simulator Support Program for the Maritime Engineering System Operator Trainer (MESOT).
  • Provide oversight for the sonar Integrated Survey and Inspection System (ISIS) support activities.
  • Undertake safety training plus ethics & compliance training.
  • Must be comfortable and able to work onboard ship for survey or trial purposes.
  • Travel may be requested on occasion.

What will you contribute?

  • 3-year technical program diploma in Electronics Technology or certified as a technologist by a recognized provincial or federal (national) licensing body or certified to the QL-6B level of military technical training as a Naval Electronics Technician or Weapons Technician occupation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated marine professional work experience in the marine sector within the last 10 years.
  • Ability to obtain a secret level security clearance.
  • Experience in electronics design and in a design office setting required however relevant experience may be considered.
  • Sound knowledge of marine electronics systems design.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications.
  • Project Management experience is an asset.
  • Experience in DND Communication Security processes is highly desirable.
  • AutoCAD software skills is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, planning and organizing abilities.
  • Excellent problem solving capabilities.
