About Glencore:

Horne Smelter operates a copper smelter in Rouyn-Noranda, producing 225,000 metric tons (mt) of copper annually by processing 840,000 mt of copper concentrates and recyclables containing copper and precious metals. It also operates a sulfuric acid plant. Horne Smelter employs 650 people, excluding contractors.

Horne Smelter, fully committed to the ongoing reduction of emissions, is looking for dynamic, motivated individuals to take part in its major transformation process called AERIS, the main stages of which include the modernization of its facilities, transitional improvements to current capture systems and the optimization of facilities around the plant to reduce emissions to the lowest possible level.

The main pillar, being the modernization of the plant, involves the construction of a new state-of-the-art section, housing a high-tech process to reduce emissions at source, over a period of 5 years, valued at $500M.

Company description:

Reporting to the Technical Development Project Manager and a member of the regional NACAP project management team, the incumbent plays a key role in managing and coordinating the construction project. He ensures that projects are completed on time, with the available resources, and on budget. He is also responsible for supervising the construction team and effectively coordinating the activities of all involved parties.

  • More specifically, you will be tasked with:
  • Planning and monitoring the budget allocated to the project, alongside the finance department, and in accordance with established practices.
  • Tracking costs and expenses to ensure they are kept within the budget.
  • Identifying potential project risks and developping appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards on the worksite.
  • Organizing and participating in follow-up meetings on project progress and addressing existing and potential issues.
  • Fostering effective communication and a spirit of collaboration between team members and also stakeholders.
  • Providing governance to the construction team to ensure proper progression of the project.
  • Ensuring optimal coordination of work carried out by all stakeholders involved on and off the construction sites.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Candidates must have a university degree in civil engineering, construction engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience as a construction project manager.
  • Good knowledge of construction principles, project management or site supervision.
  • Knowledge of building regulations.
  • Experience in team management.
