Position Summary

• Contributing to the patient assessment process
• Implementing patient care plan that include performing and/or providing assistance that include a limited range of strategies and interventions, collaborating with other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team
• Acting as patient advocate
• Contributing to the smooth functioning of the department
• Attending seminars and workshops to facilitate personal and professional growth
• Performs the duties of the nurse consistent with the job description as assigned
• Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned

Qualifications

• Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program including practicum experience
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
• 3-5 years of recent Surgical experience
• Recent Ambulatory Day Surgery experience and surgical admission experience required.
• Well developed conceptual and theoretical understanding of nursing concepts as they relate to patient population and an ability to articulate these concepts.
• Well developed clinical decision -making skills that reflect patient centeredness, problem solving and critical thinking
• Very good verbal and written communication skills
• Very good interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.
• Ability to work under pressure.
