About the Role:

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Specialist has primary responsibility for coordination, execution and oversight of quality control during all shop and field fabrication/construction and ensures all fabrication and construction work is satisfactorily completed in accordance with legislated, company and client quality standards. The QC Specialist assists in the development and supervision of the Quality Department functions and provides advanced level support to QC Inspectors.

As a Quality Specialist at Graham, you will:

  • Review project specifications and drawings for all awarded projects to determine client quality requirements (e.g fabrication, welding and NDE requirements) and planning and implementing their execution.
  • Provide technical assistance to site superintendents and project managers in the application of quality program and client specification requirements.
  • Prepare and ensure quality plans, ITP’s , Travel Sheets etc. are finalized and approved by management prior to commencement of project execution.
  • Organize and chair internal ITP kickoff meetings for awarded projects.
  • Along with QC Inspectors, prepare QC documentation binders for distribution and rollout.
  • Provide technical expertise, recommendations and assistance to customer’s Engineering & QA Departments and other company personnel regarding the application of quality program and client specification requirements.
  • Ensure Code and Client NDE requirements are implemented at shop and field sites. Resolve field QC issues in regards to standards, processes and systems.
  • Prepare and present training information to department personnel relating to Code(s), welding, NDE, subcontracting, etc.
  • Participate in project audits as required.
  • Providing ongoing documented support and mentoring, to Shop and Field QC Inspectors and Clerks.
  • Progress corrective actions required from audit findings to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Develop project specific documents.
  • Provide work leadership to QC Inspectors and attend Shop and Field sites to assess / monitor performance.
  • Provide input to the inventory list of trained field QC support personnel and contribute to the selection of QC Inspectors and Clerks.
  • Prepare and deliver periodic project performance/quality reports as required by the Manager.
  • Ensure turnover packages are issued to Manager for storage and retention.
  • Provide support to Bid proposals when requested.
  • Attend pre job meetings / kick off meetings
  • Liaise with jurisdictional authorities, third party inspectors, and outside agencies/organizations as required during execution of projects.
  • Support the Manager in developing project specific protocols / documents.
  • Assist the Manager in the maintenance and update of the Graham Quality Control Manual, Quality page of the Intranet and applicable Graham quality forms.
  • Make suggestions on improvements or changes to QA/QC program based on professional observations and expertise.
  • Carry out Welder and Welding Operator Performance Qualification testing (if and when appointed).
  • Providing input to management quality meetings as requested.
  • Support continual improvement initiatives / activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in Quality Control during which technical and work leadership experience has been clearly demonstrated
  • High school graduation supplemented by completion of Welding Engineering Technologist program from a recognized Post-secondary institution preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of NDE processes, ASME Codes and Provincial Regulations and their application to pressure vessel and piping fabrication
  • Knowledge of dimensional inspection techniques
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
  • Organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage conflicting needs while ensuring quality standards and deadlines are met
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills and solutions oriented approaches
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage day to day responsibilities in an effective manner
  • Proficiency with computers, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
