Reporting to the Dietary Manager, follows established policies, procedures and standards, prepares and serves food for the residents, including the more complex meal preparation for the facility (dinner, sauces, desserts etc.), cleans production area and equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Dietary Department at Shelburne Long Term Care is looking for qualified Cook to become part of a dynamic team that ensures our Residents are provided with nutritious and delicious meals, that are prepared and served with love. As a Cook, you will be responsible for:
- Reviewing all menus and prepare food and following standardized recipes and production sheets
- Assisting with the responsibilities of the Food Services Manager, in their absence.
- Monitoring quantity and quality of food supplies and recommending corrective action when need be.
- Coaching Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and in serving activities; assuming responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Food Services Manager, including staff replacements and service calls for malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintaining all required records and cooperating with other departments to meet resident needs
QUALIFICATIONS
For the safety and well-being of our Residents, the Cook will:
- Possess a current Food Handlers Certificate
- Successfully pass the tuberculosis (TB) testing
- Obtain a current and valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police Reference Check
Additional qualifications include:
- Red Seal Cook Trade Certification is considered an asset, but not required
- Experience in institutional large quantity cooking, preferred
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Proven ability to provide direction and lead others within a busy environment
