Job description: PRINCIPAL ANALYST, GENERAL ACCOUNTING
JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Chief, General Accounting of the Old Port of Montréal Corporation (OPMC), you will account for and analyze financial transactions related to the Corporation’s overall accounting as well as the Montréal Science Centre Foundation (MSCF). In addition, you will produce the Foundation’s monthly financial statements. You will actively participate in the budget process as well as the year-end audit. You will be at the heart of the treasury operations and will regularly assist with currency settlements.
- Ensures proper accounting for the various types of OPMC
- Accounts for rental and sponsorship revenues in accordance with IFRS;
- Applies controls to ensure the accuracy and completeness of subsystem revenues;
- Maintains the accounting of the Science Centre Foundation and produces monthly financial statements for the Foundation;
- Acts as accounting support to the CSM Foundation;
- Ensures the accounting of banking transactions;
- Produces bank reconciliations in a rigorous manner;
- Participates in the invoicing of clients as needed;
- Participates in the month-end process and suggests, if necessary, improvements to improve the efficiency of the monthly closing;
- Prepares monthly adjusting entries;
- Prepares monthly balance sheet account analyses as assigned, experience in reconciling inter-company transactions;
- Performs the accounting of assigned transactions;
- Replaces other team members as needed and is trained as required;
- Participates in the annual budget exercise and rolling forecast.
- Responds courteously and respectfully to internal customers and works closely with other departments;
- Ensures a quick response time and facilitates the achievement of internal customer objectives;
- Protects the confidentiality of information in order to maintain the level of confidence of internal clients in the department.
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 6 years of experience in general accounting including the preparation of monthly financial statements and year-end files
- Experience in continuous improvement projects including the implementation of management software
- Knowledge of IFRS standards
- Computer skills: MS Office (Excel at intermediate/advanced level) and JDE (an asset)
- Knowledge of English (intermediate level 3)
