Overview:
Where there is growth there is opportunity. Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is recruiting a General Manager, Operations to join the team. This position reports to the Vice President in the GBU Gas Services Business Unit (GBU), part of Pembina’s Facilities division.
The Gas Services Business Unit provides gas gathering, compression, shallow cut processing and both sweet and sour deep cut processing services for its customers, primarily on a fee-for-service basis under long-term contracts.
The ideal candidate for this role will utilize their trusted and engaging leadership style combined with technical and business acumen to initiate, support, and contribute to strategic decision making as it relates to the safe, reliable, and cost-effective execution of operational activities.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Business Acumen and Strategy:
- Engages with internal and external customers and stakeholders including Pembina Gas Infrastructure (PGI) commercial and operational Leadership, Pembina’s Marketing Business Unit (MBU), and external joint venture partners;
- Communicates, collaborates and shares best practices with Operations peers both internal and external to Pembina;
- Works alongside GBU and PGI Executive Leadership to develop and drive the strategic vision for the GBU Operations organization while ensuring alignment to corporate directives including Operational Excellence;
- Identifies critical issues that must be addressed to realize that vision and defines medium and long-term corporate goals and objectives;
- Possesses strong business, industry and operational knowledge including a strong familiarity with sweet and sour gas processing;
- Cultivates a culture of safety leadership and incorporates safety into all aspects of strategy and execution;
- Demonstrates ownership of the Gas Services annual operations, maintenance and sustaining capital budgets; and
- Guides and mentors the Operations leadership team to enable long-term success and one Pembina approach.

Description Continued:
Facility Safety & Operations:
- Visibly demonstrates and builds commitment and personal accountability to Pembina’s “Zero by Choice” safety culture throughout the Gas Services Operations group, including all staff and contractors;
- Fosters and promotes a culture of timely, thorough and objective incident reporting, including actively participating in the Incident Review Panel (IRP), internal auditing of assets and completion of follow-up action items;
- Support the Senior and District Managers in driving cost savings and increasing profitability;
- Collaborates with MBU and PGI in the understanding of all Business Unit Agreements and how they relate to operations and ultimately the impact on Pembina financial performance, ensuring profitable decision making throughout the Operations group;
- Reviews and approves all Business Unit projects and AFE’s from Engineering, Operations, Customer Service and Business Development;
- Ensures Pembina Maintenance Management and the SAP Inventory Management are engrained in the operations and maintenance culture and are the central planning and scheduling tools for all maintenance activities;
- Ensures business unit compliance with, and continued improvement of all facets and programs within Pembina’s Operations Management System (OMS);
- Accountable for the continuous improvement in the efficiency of the operations and maintenance teams and BU asset performance including cost savings initiatives, reliability programs, etc.;
- Works alongside Operational Services Unit to ensure that all company wide operations initiatives are supported at the Business Unit level;
- Collaborates and supports the Operations Senior Managers to ensure that processes and procedures have been developed and implemented for Maintenance, or Operations managed projects;
- Collaborates and supports the Operations Senior Managers in ensuring that the design, construction, and commissioning of all equipment meets requirements defined in Pembina’s manuals, standards, specifications, policies, and procedures, as well as regulatory, jurisdictional, and code requirements; and
- Takes ownership of the monthly business unit scorecard along with other Business Unit leaders including presentation to Corporate and Executives.
Stakeholder Relations:
- Acts as the key Pembina Operations Leadership representative for all Joint Ventures and ensures that all Joint Ventures are managed according to the agreements and in the best interests of Pembina; and
- Develops strong working relationships with all shared service providers within Pembina including Safety and Emergency Response, Technical Services, Human Resources, Land, Indigenous Relations, Regulatory, Environment and other business units to allow for the seamless delivery of production and projects.
Qualifications:
- Applicants considered will have more than 15 years’ experience in an energy infrastructure environment combined with more than 10 years’ experience in leading and mentoring large, diverse teams made up of 300 or more employees;
- Working knowledge of natural gas and natural gas liquids infrastructure operations and construction;
- Sour gas experience would be considered an asset;
- Highly effective communicator with strong emphasis on fostering collaboration, achieving consensus, and the capacity to exert influence beyond the formal chain of command
- Competencies comprise of a highly analytical nature, with strong business and financial acumen and a demonstrated history of developing high-performing teams;
- As a seasoned professional who leads with empathy, authenticity, and influencing diverse team performance across a range of geographical locations;
- As a leader you are a natural active listener, adaptive communicator, and situational coach combined with skills in developing and maintaining strong internal and external relationships; and
- A change leader with a mindset focused on talent attraction, optimization, efficiency, and excellence aligning with the Business Unit and Pembina goals.
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
