General Accountant

Job Description

• Maintain general ledger and ensure completeness and accuracy of accounting records by preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and investigating discrepancies
• Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and supports month-end close activities
• Prepares year-end audit schedules, and assists external auditors as required
• Participates in corporate and finance projects in support of organizational goals
• Reviews inputs into general ledger to ensure proper coding
• Maintains confidentiality of financial information and follows internal accounting controls
• Continual refinement of processes to ensure efficiency
• Performs other duties within competence, as assigned

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in accounting, business or related subject
• CPA designation or pursuing a CPA designation
• A minimum of three years’ experience in accounting
• Knowledge of accounting software and modules (i.e., Microsoft Dynamics 365, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, etc.)
• Intermediate knowledge of financial accounting including fund and intercompany accounting
• Knowledge of audit schedule and audit working paper preparation
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications
• Strong problem-solving, technical, and analytical skills
• Strong ability to work independently, and as part of a team
• Self-starter who demonstrates initiative and thrives in a fast-paced environment
• Superior time management and organizational skills to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
• The ability to communicate in French is considered an asset
