What you’ll do
- Participate in day-to-day work activities in Zoonotic Diseases & Emerging Pathogens by testing referred-in, reference, clinical and other samples using serological, culture, molecular and other techniques.
- Evaluate and verify results according to established procedures.
- Perform molecular testing as determined by protocol (West Nile surveillance) or special request approved by Team Lead and Program Head/Medical Microbiologist.
- Perform culturing techniques as determined by protocol (Borrelia species and Helicobacter pylori) or special request approved by Team Lead and Program Head/Medical Microbiologist.
- Perform Helicobacter pylori stool antigen test.
- Identify bacteria using light, darkfield and fluorescent microscopy.
What you bring
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- One (1) year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Basic knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology and biosafety.
You will have the ability to:
- Manage multiple projects independently and meet the demands of the section’s routine work schedule.
- Write scientific manuscripts an asset and performing literature searches.
- Troubleshoot unexpected results.
- Use interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and organizational skills.
