BCCDC Labs, Vancouver BC, $30.30 to $37.78 per hour
What you’ll do
- Participates in day-to-day work activities in Bacteriology by testing clinical and other specimens using various microscopy methods, bacterial culture, tissue culture and nucleic acid techniques, and evaluating and verifying results according to established procedures.
- Identifies cell types, bacteria and yeast, using the Gram stain, fluorescent microscopy and molecular techniques and reports results using the results to interpret specimen quality and various pathological processes.
- Subtypes bacteria by serotyping and using techniques such as PCR, PFGE and other methods.
- Performs bacterial culture, judge bacterial growth both qualitatively and quantitatively, and, using a variety of techniques, determines the significance of the culture results.
- Performs susceptibility testing by utilizing automated and manual procedures and uses available resources to accept results or perform additional testing if necessary; recognises when to report or suppress susceptibility testing results.
- Prepares stock solutions and reagents following standard operating procedures.
What you bring
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- One (1) year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Utilize interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Use attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Be self-motivated, manage time, and work independently.
- Operate equipment and related software
- Physically perform the job.
