Scope
Surrey’s Park Partnership team aims to increase meaningful community connections to park spaces through engaging and educational park programs, special events, and volunteer opportunities. We believe that access to nature and outdoor spaces helps develop an engaged and healthy community.
Program Leaders will lead our Park Play program and community engagement initiatives focused on supporting opportunities for play and educating public on environmental action, sustainability and volunteerism in Surrey’s Parks.
The successful candidate must enjoy working outdoors, interacting with the public, being part of a team and have an understanding of park stewardship.

Responsibilities
The Community Services Assistant 1 – Junior Leader will:
- Strive to build connections between families and Surrey’s park spaces.
- Host Park Care volunteer opportunities.
- Educate the public on making sustainable choices in Parks and promote Pack It In, Pack It Out.
- Lead group games and sustainability related activities in various parks in Surrey.
- This position requires some physical work and working outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions.
The Community Services Assistant 2 – Senior Leader will:
- Strive to build connections between families and community partners in Surrey’s park spaces.
- Host Park Care volunteer opportunities.
- Educate the public on making sustainable choices in Parks and promote Pack It In, Pack It Out.
- Plan and implement group games and sustainability related activities in various parks in Surrey.
- Lead Park Program Junior Leaders and volunteers.
- This position requires some physical work and working outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions.
Qualifications
The Community Services Assistant 1 – Junior Leader will have:
- Successful completion of Grade 12.
- Some relevant experience working with children and youth in a parks or recreational setting. An equivalent combination of training and experience is acceptable.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C and AED certificate (or obtain before start date).
- An enthusiastic, high initiative approach to their work; strong interpersonal skills; effective oral and written communication skills; the ability to work independently and in a team setting; and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, staff and the public.
- High Five and Fundamental Movement Skills (or other Physical Literacy) certification is an asset.
- Previous experience in environmental outreach is an asset.
The Community Services Assistant 2 – Senior Leader will have:
- Successful completion of Grade 12.
- One year of relevant experience working in parks or a recreational setting. An equivalent combination of training and experience is acceptable.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving history.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C and AED certificate (or obtain before start date).
- Previous experience working with children and youth.
- Demonstrated leadership experience. Experience in environmental outreach is an asset.
- An enthusiastic, high initiative approach to their work; strong interpersonal skills; effective oral and written communication skills; the ability to work independently and in a team setting; and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, staff and the public.
- High Five and Fundamental Movement Skills (or other Physical Literacy) certification is an asset.
