Summary of responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for processing all payments to creditors in a timely manner, ensuring that proper authorization is obtained prior to payment and is in line with terms and conditions of contracts. Ensures that all transactions are appropriately entered and posted into the correct accounts and correct fiscal periods and that client and vendor accounts are maintained and balances are reconciled on a regular basis. Records must be processed in a timely manner. The Accounting Clerk will be expected to deal with internal and external clients. Other duties as assigned by the Manager or designate.
Requirements of the job
- Successful completion of a 2-year Community College program in accounting
- Good computer skills and ability to type 45 w.p.m.
- Knowledge of Word, Windows and spreadsheet programs
- Minimum number of 2 years’ experience with a computerized accounting system
- Recent related working experience of three months in Accounting
- Demonstrated knowledge of operation of general ledger and sub-ledgers
- Knowledge of GAAP, Financial Manual, Provincial and Federal legislation
- Must pass internal accounting assessment
- Good interpersonal skills and strong team orientation
- Ability to withstand constant computer work and sitting
- Ability to work unsupervised and excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
- Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)
