As per HRM Directive 518, this employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit only.
Reporting to the Director Special Operations, the incumbent is responsible for providing efficient and consistent delivery of administrative support within the department. The position ensures the effective operation of clerical duties, coordination of invoices and other office work including processing, prioritizing and referring to the proper authority.
The Administrative Assistant is critical to the effective operations of the office and ensures that staff are well supported. The position carries out administrative functions in a timely manner and ensures that support and coordination is provided to fulfill the operational requirements of the office. The position coordinates and schedules meetings and ensures necessary staff are available to attend meetings. The incumbent will make sure meeting minutes and documents are professionally prepared. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining the office filing system, handling all incoming and outgoing mail and facsimile transmissions as well as maintaining leave and attendance files.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the successful completion of Grade 12 along with one (1) year experience in an office environment. Experience using Microsoft Word Processing, Electronic Mail and Excel Spreadsheet software are also required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
Term until March 31, 2023. Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees that apply and are successful on this term position may be offered a transfer assignment for the duration of the term, pending managerial approval.
