Position Description:
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics at McGill University invites applicants for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as an academic clinician, at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (Clinical). The rank will be determined according to the chosen candidates’ qualifications and experience. This position is a contract faculty position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. There are two positions available.
The successful candidates will be expected to contribute as full members of the Division of General Pediatrics, with an expert focus on pediatric palliative care. The Division of General Pediatrics currently has 40 members working in diverse areas including: Inpatient pediatrics, Newborn medicine, Complex care, Medical day hospital, Northern & Indigenous child health, and others. In addition to full-service tertiary care, the Division’s members have proven academic strengths in multiple fields such as medical education, epidemiology, health services and quality improvement research, as well as knowledge translation research.
The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine, and our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The MCH is a 150-bed hospital with a 12-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a 6-bed step down unit, a 52- bed Neonatal Intensive Care unit, and 56 pediatric inpatient beds. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH.
Job Duties:
The successful candidates will have a principal role in the Pediatric Palliative Medicine/Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) as active physician members of the Division of General Pediatrics, at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, MUHC. The Pediatric Palliative Care Team, comprised of four MDs, a nurse, a nurse practitioner, with additional access to social services and spiritual care, provides interdisciplinary care to infants, children, adolescents, and selected young adults with serious advanced illness. The first Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada pediatric palliative care-training program in Quebec was approved in 2023 and will be an integral part of the team’s academic mission. The PACT provides care for pediatric patients with life-limiting illness and offers supportive care to children with serious illness and their families within the McGill University hospital network, outpatient clinics, and at home.
The successful candidates will be expected to divide their time as follows:
- Clinical Work (0.75 FTE): The focus of clinical work will be in Pediatric Palliative Care with additional opportunities in the Division of General Pediatrics
- Research/Academic (0.25 FTE): Participation in departmental and divisional academic activities such as research, teaching, quality improvement, and program development is required. Two priority areas include Perinatal Palliative Care and a planned Royal College two-year pediatric palliative medicine fellowship program.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Candidates must:
- hold an MD degree or equivalent;
- have postgraduate clinical training in Pediatrics, and have completed specialty training with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
- have either certification, or equivalent clinical experience, in Pediatric Palliative Care;
- hold or be eligible for licensure to practice medicine from the Collège des médecins du Québec;
- be fluent in either English or French with a working knowledge of the complimentary language.
