JOB SUMMARY
The Sibelius engineering team is looking for a talented and experienced back-end software engineer to be a member of our Audio development team based in Montréal. You will be part of a small but growing team of passionate musicians and engineers building and improving upon the years of dedication and skill found in the Sibelius code base.

In this role you will be responsible for creating, debugging, and maintaining back-end services supporting front-end features in Sibelius itself as well as new and exciting features in the cloud. While your exact tasks will vary according to project requirements, typical tasks may include developing new features, maintenance, bug fixes and contributing to the overall quality of our products.

To join our team, you must have a solid understanding of software engineering and at least one functional or object-orientated programming language. You will have a unique ability to create, debug, and maintain bulletproof code, an eye for detail, and extremely high standards with respect to software quality and reliability and be an awesome team player. An awareness of the particular challenges faced in designing, deploying and maintaining scalable cloud-based software is an advantage, especially those which apply uniquely to audio, music and notation. Willingness and curiosity to pick up new languages and technologies is desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Design, build, and maintain efficient backend services supporting Sibelius and Avid audio product line.
  • Identify and develop new ways of applying the considerable institutional knowledge of music, music notation and audio found in the Sibelius C++ code base in new ways in a cloud-based environment.
  • Work closely with other engineers to develop new features for Sibelius, our music notation and composition software.
  • Work effectively in a multi-tasking and highly dynamic environment.
  • Interface with other departments, such as product management, architecture and engineering to improve the overall software development process and quality of our Sibelius software.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • BS or MS in Computer Science equivalent degree or related work experience.
  • Expertise with Elixir, Erlang or Node is required.
  • Comfort in reading and understanding code (not necessarily in your first language!) in a polyglot environment.
  • Understanding of databases including MongoDB. Familiarity with graph databases is a plus.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes, Istio in a microservice environment.
  • Experienced with scripting languages such as shell or PowerShell
  • Familiarity and/or passion for music, music notation or audio.
  • Notation, MIDI and/or audio programming experience is a plus.
  • Strong initiative, ownership, and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
