You’re an experienced health care professional with experience designing, implementing and sustaining Electronic Health Record (EHR) in a healthcare setting. You understand the needs of improving patient care delivery through the use of technology and able to collaborate with clinical staff and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and continuously improve quality and safety of the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

What you’ll do

Reporting to the BCMHSUS Clinical Informatics Manager, the Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) promotes the integration of digital and communications technologies and clinical change initiatives that automate and/or enhance evidence based clinical practices, access to patient/client information and clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

The CIS has the opportunity to support a unique client population and healthcare team that is spread across British Columbia’s 10 provincial correctional centres. As an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team, the CIS works to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, accountability and sustainability of initiatives specific to Correctional Health Services. In collaboration with clinical leaders, service and program managers, technology partners, physicians and staff, the CIS will work towards enhancing the use and value of the Correctional Health Services EHR and supporting technologies.

BCMHSUS is focused on improving client care within the correctional centres, and also on supporting clients as they transition back to the community. The CIS will support high impact projects and programs, such as the Community Transition Teams (CTT) which provides comprehensive care coordination and peer support to clients.

High-level accountabilities include:

  • Provides leadership and support to the Correctional Health Services training team, participating in the planning, coordination, scheduling, and implementation of training programs to meet the learning needs of electronic health information system users.
  • Collaborates with members of the IMITS department and other organizational programs/departments and partner vendors related to , requirements gathering, requirements documentation and testing for enhancements to the Correctional Health Services electronic health record.
  • Works with stakeholders to identify innovative approaches and standards for the management of and secure access to personal health information in the Correctional Health Services electronic health record.
  • Supports the development of Correctional Health Services clinical change management policies and procedures as they relate to the electronic health record and related clinical practice process redesign.
  • Participates as needed in the development of detailed requirements, evaluation criteria, budgets, project charters, implementation plans, status updates, communication plans and other project related documents.
  • Coordinates and facilitates communication of system changes/enhancements.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related health discipline such as Health Informatics, Nursing, Allied Health or patient care/clinical related specialty, or an equivalent level of education, training and experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a health care environment, including extensive experience using related computer technology, clinical change management, and/or project leadership.
  • Experience implementing/supporting integrated clinical system environments is an asset.

Skills

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice in effective problem solving techniques with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates change management orientation in their work and possesses an attitude of continuous improvement with effective coaching, facilitating and leading skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy and procedure development and/or clinical documentation standards, business process analysis and reengineering techniques.
  • Advanced computer skills with current multiple applications relevant to the role.
