Responsibilities
This position is a member of the Crisis/Urgent Care Service, Mental Health and Addictions. Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the clinician provides advanced assessment, intervention, brief follow up and care planning for crisis/urgent care clients across the lifespan, with the goal of stabilization and connection to necessary mental and addictions services as required. The majority of consults are from the Emergency Department, but may also come from other services or departments both internal and external to Nova Scotia Health.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a clinical health-related discipline i.e. Social Work, Psychology. Consideration may be given to other Masters health-related disciplines, with a clinical undergrad, based on demonstrated equivalencies.
- Registration with the relevant professional licensing body required.
- Experience in the provision of clinical consultation to acute Mental Health and/or addictions across the life span required.
- Current BCLS certification required.
- Two years’ experience conducting independent assessment and treatment services within a clinical mental health and/or addictions setting required.
- Must be skilled in conducting mental status exams, full bio-psychosocial assessment, and risk assessments with clients and families.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications preferred.
- Experience with providing short term individual or family therapy required.
- Experience in the provision of group programming is required.
- Suicide Risk Assessment Intervention Course preferred or willingness to obtain and experience conducting suicide risk assessments.
- Experience in assessment, treatment and case management of clients living with concurrent disorders preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals.
- Non Violence Crisis Intervention certification required, or willingness to be certified within 3 months of obtaining the position.
- Must have a working knowledge of both manual and electronic statistical tracking mechanisms and an ability to conduct outcome evaluation.
- Ongoing competency development is required
- Excellent communication skills, strong leadership and teaching skills are required.

Hours of Work
Long Assignment, Full Time (100%) Position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Beginning as soon as possible with an expected end date of February 28 2022.

Salary Information
$34.9875 – $45.9941 Hourly
