About the Opportunity

Please Note: This is a bi-lingual position. Fluency in both French and English is required.

** This position will be serving schools in the Northern Zone (Colchester County), the position can be virtual therefore the staff can be located anywhere within Nova Scotia.

Based at the Mental Health and Addictions outpatient clinic and supporting the École acadienne de Truro, the Clinician will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision, planning, development and evaluation of a full range of mental health services to children/adolescents, groups and families and will be responsible for delivering diagnostic, therapeutic and consultation services exclusively within the school based programs. The clinician participates in meetings/case conferences with Schools Plus Schools, school program planning and outside agencies. Schools Plus is a student focused comprehensive and collaborative interagency approach to educating and providing service to the child/adolescent and family, with the school as the centre of service. The focus of Cumberland Schools Plus Schools is to support referred students and families by helping them attain timely and effective services that meet their identified needs.

Travaillant à partir de la clinique de consultation externe en santé mentale et en traitement des dépendances et apportant un soutien à l’École acadienne de Truro, le ou la thérapeute clinique fait partie d’une équipe multidisciplinaire chargée de la prestation, de la planification, de la mise au point et de l’évaluation d’une gamme complète de services de santé mentale pour les enfants et les adolescents, ainsi que pour les groupes et les familles. Il ou elle fournit des services de diagnostic, de thérapie et de consultation uniquement dans le cadre des programmes scolaires. Le ou la thérapeute clinique participe à des réunions ou conférences de cas avec les écoles de l’initiative ÉcolesPlus et avec des organismes extérieurs, ainsi qu’à la planification des programmes scolaires. ÉcolesPlus est une démarche interorganisme globale et collaborative centrée sur l’élève, dans le cadre de laquelle l’école constitue le point central pour fournir des services d’éducation et d’autres types de service aux enfants et aux adolescents ainsi qu’à leur famille. Les écoles de Cumberland de l’initiative ÉcolesPlus offrent un soutien aux élèves et aux familles en les aidant à obtenir en temps voulu des services efficaces répondant à leurs besoins.

About You

  • Master’s degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology (Registered, Masters), Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, Masters in Occupational Therapy)
  • Current registration with relevant provincial regulatory body
  • Two years’ related experience required (including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention and discharge planning)
  • Competency in CBT and DBT training/experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used (DSM V) for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in providing individual and group evidence informed therapies based on care plan to clients with mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or concurrent disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information, and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living mental illness and addiction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide and violence risk assessment/ intervention
  • Non-violent crisis intervention and Suicide Risk Assessment preferred
  • Demonstrated awareness of community resources and programs.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • High level of written/ oral/ interpersonal communication skills; experience with conflict resolution
  • Ability to work effectively in multiple software applications required
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent work record and attendance, and physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French required

About You

  • Maîtrise dans une discipline clinique liée à la santé [maîtrise en travail social, en psychologie (psychologue autorisé), en counseling, en sciences infirmières, en ergothérapie].
  • Inscription auprès d’un organisme de réglementation de la Nouvelle-Écosse.
  • Deux ans d’expérience connexe (évaluation et planification, traitement et intervention et planification des congés des services de santé).
  • Posséder des compétences en thérapie cognitive du comportement (TCC) ainsi qu’une formation et une expérience en thérapie comportementale dialectique (TCD) constitue un atout.
  • Connaissance et compréhension avérées des critères officiels utilisés (DSM-5) pour la classification et le diagnostic des troubles mentaux.
  • Connaissances et compétences avérées relatives à la prestation de thérapies individuelles et de groupe fondées sur des données probantes et reposant sur des plans de soins, à des clients souffrant de maladie mentale, de troubles liés à la toxicomanie ou de troubles concomitants.
  • Connaissances et compétences avérées en matière de collaboration avec les familles pour la diffusion d’informations et la mise en place de services axés sur la famille dans le cadre desquels les familles participent aux soins et au rétablissement des personnes ayant des maladies mentales et des problèmes de toxicomanie.
  • Connaissances et compétences avérées en intervention de crise ainsi qu’en évaluation des risques de suicide et de violence et en interventions connexes.
  • Posséder une expérience en matière d’interventions en situation d’urgence sans violence et d’évaluation des risques de suicide constitue un atout.
  • Connaissance manifeste des ressources et des programmes communautaires.
  • Excellentes aptitudes à résoudre des problèmes, capacités organisationnelles et capacité de gestion de priorités, et capacité à gérer plusieurs tâches.
  • Très bonnes compétences en communication interpersonnelle écrite ou verbale; expérience de la résolution de conflits.
  • Capacité exigée à travailler efficacement avec diverses applications logicielles.
  • Capacité avérée à prendre des initiatives, à travailler de manière autonome avec un minimum de supervision et à faire partie d’une équipe multidisciplinaire.
  • Excellents antécédents professionnels et excellente assiduité, et capacité physique à effectuer les tâches du poste.
  • La connaissance d’autres langues constitue un atout; le français est obligatoire.
