This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addictions, The Community Mental Health Nurse (CMHN) works to full scope of practice as a registered nurse within a mental health multidisciplinary team to collaboratively provide an optimal level of care and treatment in a holistic manner which is respectful of the client’s bio, psycho, social, cultural and spiritual needs, and along a continuum of health (prevention, promotion, treatment, management and rehabilitation) services. They understand and work within the Standards for Mental Health Services in Nova Scotia.

The CMHN ensures that the principles and practices that guide NSHA such as the mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and interprofessional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Diploma RN with equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent and relevant experience working in the mental health field
  • Registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
  • Current in first aid and CPR
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Ongoing professional development and competence is required
  • Identifies, achieves, and maintains own professional development needs and competencies, seeks appropriate learning opportunities, understanding of the Standards for Mental Health Services in Nova Scotia and evaluates own learning
  • Computer proficiency – MS Word and Outlook, etc.
  • Demonstrated accountability

Hours of Work

Permanent full-time (100%) position; 75.00 hours bi-weekly.

Travel to other sites is required and must have access to reliable vehicle.

Salary Information

Community Mental Health Nurse (RN03):

$36.13 – $42.43 hourly

($43.92 hourly with 25 years of nursing experience).
