$50,000-$65,000 base plus company-paid benefits

Our client is a Toronto-based real estate company looking to find a construction accountant for a newly created role in the accounting team due to growth of the department. The position will have a heavy focus on processing invoices for the construction draws, but will also assist in corporate accounting and managerial accounting duties. Individuals who are pursuing their CPA designation are encouraged to apply as the role reports to a CPA-designated Manager who can sign off on your experience.

The Construction Accountant will also coordinate with other departments to ensure that billing packages are prepared accurately and in a timely manner. This person will assist in many different areas. Please note that this role will also include some data entry and more clerical duties, but the company is growing so you can expect your position and duties to also grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor construction accounting email inbox and regular mail for incoming invoices
  • Process invoices to ensure all necessary paperwork is received and all internal processes are followed
  • Sort invoices by project and place them into relevant folder for Project Manager approval.
  • Coordinate and work closely with the accounting department, more specifically project accountants, to ensure invoices are processed and cheques cut in time for monthly budget meeting
  • If requested, draft memos and covering letters
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with each project’s site staff, the accounting department and various trade billing departments
  • Certain projects will require you to become an expert on cost sharing rules by understanding which trades are affected and how they are applied. The Construction Accountant will ensure all cost sharing rules are applied correctly and reflected in the schedule of values on the trade invoices
  • Assist with developing site office operating procedures and protocols, specific to accounting and document control
  • Assist with preparation of month-end reports for construction management subsidiary companies

Requirements

  • University education in Business Administration/Accounting
  • At least two years of experience in a junior or intermediate accounting role
  • Ideally some construction or real estate development industry experience
  • Active pursuit of an accounting designation is considered an asset
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft EXCEL
  • Enjoys a fast pace environment and is highly professional, with excellent attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work outside of core hours when business needs dictate
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to present information in a clear manner

Benefits

$50,000-$65,000 base, bonus and company-paid benefits

Expected salary: $65000 per year
