ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Community Operations Manager, this role will work in Community Power to support the delivery of our construction and housing service offerings. These services are often delivered in remote, isolated communities and range from housing condition assessments to new home construction and renovation estimating, project management partnerships, and other related work. This role will work alongside a small operations team to deliver benefits to our clients that improves homes and adds capacity to manage their housing projects. This is a fully remote (work from home) position that requires regular travel to communities across BC.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is responsible for:

  • The development of construction services content including housing assessment and upgrade reports, renovation scope documents, cost estimates, trade contracts, construction progress accounting reports, schedules and change orders.
  • Performing building condition assessments in communities across BC and neighbouring provinces.
  • Assessing the condition of various housing components such as foundations, windows and doors, roofs, attics, plumbing & electrical systems, etc.
  • Working with energy specialists to formulate energy reduction strategies for community homes and buildings.
  • Teaching and guiding community housing staff on best practices to correct deficiencies within homes and buildings.
  • Generating detailed scopes of work and cost estimates for home and building maintenance and repair for the purpose of community-scale budgeting and planning.
  • Presenting assessment findings to community members and leadership both virtually and in-person.
  • Acting as a liaison between contractors, the client, and other stakeholders during renovation and construction projects and acting as the owner’s representative.
  • Managing relationships with our partner communities as it relates to project work.
  • Working with the Business Development team to define new construction and housing service offerings and refine existing offerings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A thorough understanding of cold climate residential construction methods and best practices is required for this role.
  • Degree, certificate, diploma or other formal training in Construction Management or building trade is required.
  • A reasonable understanding of advanced building science is required.
  • 2-5 years of direct experience in residential construction or construction management is required.
  • Experience using MS Word and Excel and the ability to learn a variety of new software is required.
  • Experience with client management and customer service is an asset.
  • Having Red Seal, Building Inspector or Project Management certification is an asset.
  • Interest in, and knowledge of high performance building systems is an asset.
  • Must have a valid Class 5-passenger vehicle licence.
