The Construction Lead oversees the planning and execution of new projects, preventative and corrective maintenance, and ensures top-notch customer service. The role involves substantial coordination, inspection, quality control, and leadership in ensuring construction work, particularly contracted tasks, are accomplished efficiently and safely. Maintaining Powerline Technician competencies is essential for success in this role.

What You Get to Do:
- Determine necessary permits, coordinating with stakeholders to align timelines.
- Review Bill of Materials for accuracy and manage material orders and delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with the System Operations Centre (SOC) and Team Lead for outage planning, permit, and switching requests.
- Review the constructability of Engineering designs and standards.
- Conduct site visits, gathering data for stakeholders such as Engineering, Forestry, and Survey.
- Lead or participate in site kick-off meetings, ensuring clear communication with project teams and contractors.
- Act as the primary contact for contractors on design, site concerns, materials, and project scope.
- Monitor contractors’ adherence to safety standards, including AEUC, OHS, and Environmental codes.
- Oversee contractor invoices, change requests, and quality control, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
- Monitor quality of work against construction and engineering work packages.
- Assist in developing annual contracts, preparing project tenders, and ensuring contractor performance meets contract terms.
- Promptly report incidents or near misses.
- Engage in hands-on tasks when necessary, such as opening transformers, testing equipment, measuring energized lines, and assisting during emergencies.
- Handle switching activities in certain scenarios.
What you Bring:
- Valid Journeyman Power Line Technician (PLT) Certificate for Alberta or Inter-Provincial Red Seal.
- 5 – 7 years’ experience Transmission Line experience.
- Project management training/experience is beneficial.
- Prior leadership experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with incident investigation processes.
- Experience in managing contractors and understanding contracts.
- Ability to travel and work away from home.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and tools like Maximo, APS, GNET, For Site, Mobile TC.
- Strong understanding of engineering and construction drawings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of contract terms and conditions.
- In-depth understanding of ATCO Electric’s construction methods, standards, and Health, Safety, and Environment policies.
- Knowledge of Safety Codes (AEUC), OHS, Environmental standards, and relevant Canadian and Alberta electrical and building codes.
