Hatch is looking for a construction manager to support its construction department in St.John’s. They will be responsible for on-site work on current and future projects, working with a dynamic team of specialists in a stimulating environment.

Experience Category:

  • Supervising planning, management, organization, budgeting, inspection, coordination and performance of all construction work related to the project
  • Ensuring strict compliance with the highest safety and quality standards
  • Complying with budget constraints and timelines
  • Assisting with conceptual design on construction projects and overseeing its organization, scheduling and implementation.

Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent is responsible for health, safety and the environment in their sector. They champion health, safety and a zero harm culture. They share related procedures and standards with the team and ensure compliance. They proactively promote a safe and risk-free workplace with contractors.
  • Establish procedures and methods for required reports in coordination with the client, the project management team and project services.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company regulations and procedures. Implement field procedures and establish project objectives based on site conditions in accordance with company regulations and procedures.
  • Establish and adhere to project priorities, coordinating with project managers, design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling, and other staff to ensure that work moves forward on time and on budget.

Requirements:

  • A thorough understanding of health, safety, environmental and community issues during the construction phase of the project, as well as in-depth knowledge of health, safety and environmental procedures; safe work practices and applicable legislation
  • Engineering degree or equivalent
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in construction management, preferably on brownfield projects
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team and grow within it
  • Excellent report writing, planning and organizational skills
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of construction; engineering disciplines; construction and maintenance practices, procedures and techniques; and applicable codes and standards
  • Fluent in spoken and written French (required) and English (an asset)
