Nature of Work:

CIPPIC is seeking a research assistant to support our intellectual property advocacy. The ideal candidate will offer the following qualities:

– Is a current law student

– Has already taken a course in intellectual property law

– Has or is taking patent law

– Ideally, has studied and written on technical patent law issues such as disclosure, overbreadth, and claims construction;

– Has working experience with intellectual property professionals

– Has intellectual property litigation experience, and has ideally worked on factums, pleadings, and memoranda of fact and law

– Is a strong writer and editor

– Has experience working and/or volunteering in public interest and/or civil society initiatives

– Has experience working in group settings on written materials

– Has experience working in educational settings

– Has a background in the sciences, with a bio-chemistry or organic chemistry focus being ideal

The position involves working closely with CIPPIC staff and interns to:

– Undertake research technical and challenging intellectual property law issues;

– Participate in drafting, reviewing and editing research memoranda, legal reports and litigation documents; and

– Participate in writing, editing and publishing public education materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

An undergraduate degree or suitable equi in any discipline. The candidate must have completed one year of the JD program in French or English common law, or the droit civil program.
