Job description: About The Role:

Journey is looking for an experienced, energetic, data scientist with an interest in teaching. As a data science instructor you will be responsible for leading lectures on various topics, assigning course work, grading, and mentoring students on a 1-1 basis. You will work as an instructor for our (a partnership between us and Concordia University) and have a direct impact on changing peoples lives through education.

This is a part-time position, contractual position.

Class Schedule: Tuesdays + Thursdays, 6:30-10pm plus Sundays 10am-5pm

Prep Work: 3-5 hours per week

Contract Start Date: February 13, 2024

Contract End Date: October 10, 2024

Pay Rate: $15,000-$19,000 for full length of contract

Responsibilities:

• Teach a class of beginners with the goal of ensuring they graduate ready for junior-level roles in Data Science
• Act as coach/mentor to students as they work their way through the course
• Care profoundly about every student’s success
• Present lectures on Math, Stats, Python, Pandas, SQL, Data Visualization, and more
• Communicate regularly with the Administration Team to provide feedback and ongoing updates on the students’ process
• Follow each student independently and ensure that they master the subject matter

About You:

• Experience teaching, coaching, managing, mentoring or supporting junior data scientists
• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist
• Outgoing, personable, friendly, and empathetic
• Comfortable explaining difficult concepts because of your ability to dissect and disseminate them into bite-sized, understandable ideas
• Strong active listening skills and ability to motivate people
• Capable of helping all students equally – both those that are excelling and those who are falling behind – with patience, kindness, and empathy
• Lifelong learner who loves sharing their learnings and experiences with others
• Motivated by the idea of helping people lead better lives through education
