Responsibilities

Reporting to the Primary Health Care Manager and the Manager of Nutrition & Food Services, the Clinical Dietitian is responsible and accountable to provide competent, safe and ethical professional practice to the patient/client, family, and community. As a member of a primary health care (PHC) Diabetic education Centre team, the PHC Dietitian provides a range of PHC services. These services include, but may not be limited to, health promotion, illness prevention, screening, treatment and monitoring of people living with diabetes The Dietitian will provide expert knowledge and skills on a wide range of issues from advocacy to assessment to case management. The Clinical Dietitian is the member of the interdisciplinary health professional team responsible for the nutritional management and education of patients. The Dietitian initiates cost effective medical nutrition therapy following the nutrition care process including nutrition assessment, identification of nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention and ongoing monitoring and evaluation. These services are provided within a holistic, client/family centred care framework.

The incumbent will provide health assessment, interventions and appropriate follow up in accordance with acts, regulations, policies, standards, guidelines, mission and objectives of the Registered Dietitians of Canada, the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, the Department of Health and Wellness – Province of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized university
• Dietetic internship (a 1 year integrated or post graduate program)
• Current Membership in Nova Scotia Dietetic Association required
• Annual continuing education to maintain Nova Scotia license
• Two years clinical experience preferred
• Membership in Dietitians of Canada preferred
• Current CPR/BLS certification is required
• Designation as a Certified Diabetes Educator preferred
• Experience with group education
• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
• Familiarity with principles of Motivational Interviewing
• Exhibits creative problem-solving ability; Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines and committees to achieve excellence in patient care
• Computer proficiency in MS Office( Word, PowerPoint), email and internet
• Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Effective research and analytical thinking skills
• Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours of Work

Long-assignment, part-time 60% position; 45 hours bi-weekly

Approximate start date of March 30, 2021 with a duration of March 25, 2022

Salary Information

$30.8934 – $40.7230 hourly
