We are looking for a visionary, charismatic and dynamic Director General to lead the Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre. The Director General would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
Contribute to further develop the excellent work of the Quantum and Nano technologies Research Centre and build fruitful collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
The Research Centre
The Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre will be launched on April 1st 2024 as a result of a recent strategic planning exercise and the merger of three existing research centres: Advanced Electronics and Photonics, Security and Disruptive Technologies, both located in Ottawa, and Nanotechnologies, located in Edmonton. The Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre also oversee NRC programs, including: the Internet of Things: Quantum Sensors Challenge program, the High throughput and Secure Networks Challenge program, the Nanotechnology Initiative jointly with the University of Alberta, and the Joint Centre for Extreme Photonics with the University of Ottawa.
The scientists working in the Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre are experts in quantum, photonic, electronic, and nanomaterials scientific domains. . We collaborate with Canadian and international research labs, industry and academia to build the emerging technology platforms that will sustain Canada’s industrial competitiveness well into the future.
We develop new platforms that can be applied in a wide range of industries in technology areas such as:
- Quantum and material science
- Quantum and photonic device design, fabrication and testing.
We offer scientific and engineering expertise in materials testing and characterization, printed electronics (2D-3D printing), electronic and photonic sensors, quantum and semiconductor devices fabrication and scale up, as well asaccess to unique prototyping facilities.
Focusing on medium to long-term collaborations, we work with industry, academia and government to:
- Accelerate knowledge-generation and technology development
- Translate fundamental science into technology platforms of strategic relevance to Canadian industry and society
- De-risk emerging technologies for adoption by Canadian industry Develop emerging solutions in NRC’s three pillars of Climate Change and Sustainability, Health, and Quantum and Digital Technologies.

Education
Ph.D. in a field of science relevant to the research centerfrom a recognized university.

Experience
- Significant experience conducting original research in one of the fields covered by the research centre.
- Experience managing and leading multidisciplinary R&D teams.
- Experience in elaborating a strategic vision and translating it in efficient operations.
- Significant experience in building partnerships with national (universities, government and industry) and international organizations.
- Experience developing and executing strategic projects with senior government officials, academic and industry leaders.
- Senior executive experience including a demonstrated ability to lead change, build superior teams, motivate a diverse group of individuals, and direct large-scale initiatives.

- Ability to effectively lead and manage a multi-disciplinary organization in an R&D environment with a style and approach that supports NRC’s commitment to scientific excellence, diversity and its participative management and entrepreneurship values.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully leverage government, industry or other partnerships to generate and deliver on ideas that would lead to recognition of NRC’s role in world-wide research and technology innovation.
- Knowledge of the existing research centres to be merged into the Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre: Advanced Electronics and Photonics, Security and Disruptive Technologies, and Nanotechnologies’ initiatives, programs and activities and their potential for impact nationally and internationally.
- Recognized leadership in the fields covered by the Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre.
- Ability to analyze complex information, make timely decisions and communicate clearly with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage in a scientific environment with in depth knowledge of the different models of research operations while enhancing a collaborative approach.

Compensation
From $181,402 to $217,565 per annum.
