As the Director – Labor Relations (North America), you will be responsible for the creation and execution of strategic and comprehensive labor strategies for union and non-union facilities throughout North America. You will build strong partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, such as local/regional/corporate HR, business leaders as well as labor leaders (local, national, and international). You will act as the chief negotiator in contract negotiations and managing campaigns. You will advise and facilitate the execution of the strategic labor and HR initiatives and offer solutions to navigate the Organization’s labor and employee relations’ strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic planning and preparation for negotiations and other bargaining related responsibilities which includes coordinating with local management and HR, corporate pension and benefits specialists, and senior leadership.
- Negotiate strategy and proposals to determine feasibility, cost, effects on operations and relationship to prevailing trends in the industry and the geographic area.
- Assesses and provides counsel regarding industry trends and stays informed of political actions that may impact the Company based on the labor environment.
- Assists local leadership team to evaluate results from grievances to determine contractual violations and implements appropriate remedies when applicable.
- Represents the Company as chief negotiator in all North America CBA negotiations across the Organization.
- Trains and advises the business on the interpretation and application of the CBA to all levels of management.
- Provide coaching and guidance to HR and leadership teams on employee relations issues and strategies for effectively responding to potential organizing vulnerability or activity.
- Serves as a trusted business partner to the site leadership teams to create and sustain positive employee relations programs and best practices.
- Establishes and implements best practice employee engagement strategies that promote team building and support Company values, cultural objectives and business goals.
- Manages and directs responses to union organizing activity and coordinates union election campaigns.
- Partners with functional HR corporate teams to ensure alignment with all labor strategies (culture and engagement, benefits, compensation, Talent Acquisition, etc.)
- Lead HR Business Partner(s) for the Company’s North American unionized facilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree – Human Resources, Law, Business or related field required; Masters Degree preferred
- Licenses/Certificates/Designations – PHR, SPHR, HR, SHRM, SCP, CP or GPHR preferred
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience negotiating and administering multiple collective bargaining agreements, including first chair experience in negotiations, labor arbitrations and grievance proceedings, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment; experience must include experience practicing before the NLRB, including participation in unfair labor practice hearings and Board-conducted elections
- Knowledge of collective bargaining including understanding of the union organization process, contract negotiations, grievance handling up through the arbitration level, multi-employer pension plans and labor and employment laws
- Experience implementing and/or executing scalable strategies for promoting strong employee relations and organizing programs that align with the Company’s culture, cost and business objectives
- Experience managing campaigns at manufacturing and distribution facilities
- Experience serving as an HR Business Partner who works closely with management while providing strategic input and advice on people-related issues
- Excellent negotiation skills and strong ability to be influential with excellent communication and critical thinking skills
- Superior conflict resolution skills with demonstrated results and strong interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills
- Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to build productive relationships and positively engage with and influence employees at all levels, including business leaders, key stakeholders and senior management
- Experience with Union election campaigns preferred
- Strong knowledge of the National Labor Relations Act preferred
- Ability to travel 50% – 75%

The expected salary range for this role is $134,269 – $184,620. This is the salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s compensation level within the range will be based on several factors, including but not limited to geographic location, experience, relevant education, qualifications, skills, organizational needs, and performance. This position may be eligible to participate in the company’s incentive plan.
