Position Title: Director Logistics

Team and Location: STaR, Calgary, AB

Salary $190,000/year

Position Summary:

The Director Logistics will oversee the Logistics department for global supply and trading to ensure that top quality customer service and execution is maintained, strategic goals are realized, compliance with regulatory requirements is met, and that a collective working culture is supporting organizational growth, within the department and cross functionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Vice President to optimize the planning and scheduling of logistics resources and strategic priorities to reach enterprise objectives;
  • Ensures business is conducted in compliance with all regulations, as it pertains to various modes of transportation and jurisdictions of oversight i.e., Transport Canada, Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration, etc;
  • Drives the negotiation of key transportation services and assets to ensure Parkland remains competitive in the marketplace;
  • Accountable for all long-term leasing agreements: builds and maintains relationships with all major leasing counterparts; responsible for setting and executing negotiation strategy;
  • Key contact for all railway contract negotiations; creates collaborative internal strategy and communications to focus annual contract renewal and negotiations collectively across the organizations;
  • Point of escalation for all Logistics related concerns – actively promote organization’s interests internally and externally by creating positive business solutions, and oversees the execution of those solutions in a timely manner;
  • Reviews and approves all logistics related transportation, servicing, storage and asset agreements to ensure that the company’s interests are protected;
  • Sets the strategic direction of the Logistics department, and is responsible for the dissemination of that vision across the department and organization;
  • Develops Key Performance Indicators (KPI), monitors benchmarking and execution against KPIs – molds process for development across KPI metrics;
  • Accountable for Logistics execution, performance and financial impact on the organization, and for developing strategies and tactics to minimize costs; takes the lead in ensuring that department participants have the tools and skills necessary to align, and work in unison with strategies and tactics to reduce cost basis;
  • Supports the development of new business, and investigation of new organizational growth opportunities;
  • Responsible for the management, direction, coaching and development of business unit managers within the Logistics Department;
  • Key departmental contact for all process and system development initiatives – responsible for ensuring optimal efficiency within the Logistics department, and organization as a whole;
  • Sitting on Industry Focus Groups to actively participate with external stakeholders for creating a collective industry voice on important regulatory, technical, and going concern matters;
  • Focused collaboration with Human Resources/People and Culture groups on Employee Engagement, departmental culture, and contributor performance management.
  • Responsible for compliance throughout Transportation initiatives with POEMS standards and requirements;
  • Keen focus and drive in Operational Efficiency, and the reliable and safe delivery of products and services;
  • Responsible for collaboratively developing Key Performance Indicators for Logistics Assets, and driving the optimization and cost efficiency of logistic asset operations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Post-Secondary Degree in Logistics, Supply chain, Finance, Economics, Business, or related field, is required.
  • At least 10 years of related logistics and operations experience, is required.
  • At least 5 years of related leadership experience, is required.
  • Direct experience and knowledge in all facets related to the distribution of good via pipeline, rail, truck and vessel across North America and globally.
  • Mechanical Aptitude is an asset.
  • Health and safety background is an asset.
  • Compliance understanding and experience in international trade is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal skills supported by proven experience in business presentations.
  • Strong Negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent understanding of financial concepts and reporting.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop managers and individual contributors, is required.
  • Technical/operational knowledge of facilities including refineries, terminals, and bulk facilities, is required.
