HOURS OF WORK: 15-hour workweek / variable hours

LOCATION: Hybrid Model: mainly virtual with some opportunities to work in-person (offices at 1 Theatre Lane, 8 Nelson Street, 150 Central Park Drive, Brampton)

HOURLY RATE: $18.22 per hour

The City of Brampton’s Heartbeats in Performing Arts program is a co-op & internship for Black and Indigenous Youth. The program will help to increase opportunities for local Black and Indigenous youth to gain meaningful experience and/or employment in the arts. It will celebrate students’ cultures, increase cultural understanding, and enable student success. It aligns with the following City of Brampton priorities:

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Education & Outreach Coordinator, Performing Arts, under the guidance of the Community Programming & Outreach Associate, and in collaboration with high school co-op student(s), the successful candidate(s) in this role will work as part of a team that will implement a co-op program specifically for Black and Indigenous youth. Participants will have an opportunity to determine their own learning goals and will meet with Indigenous and Black performing arts industry professionals to further those goals. This is an exciting opportunity that provides exposure to careers in the arts and allows for the pursuit of an independent creative project.

Participants will develop the following skills:

  • Ideation, creative and critical thinking
  • Team work, collaboration, collective creation
  • Independent research, writing, oral presentation

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • This is a position for Black and Indigenous youth. Please identify if you are Black or Indigenous in your cover letter.
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary program
  • An interest in performing arts
  • A desire to make a difference
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Priority will be given to City of Brampton residents

**Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.

**Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.
