Reporting to the SBB Manager, Capital Project, the Electrical Project Manager – SBB is responsible for managing major capital projects for the Strand Base sector. The Electrical Project Manager is expected to provide technical and project management expertise on capital projects as needed and to act as an industry subject matter expert for Tolko. Assigned projects range from 1M to 50M.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • 7 years’ plus experience in Electrical Project Management roles within an industrial industry;
  • Knowledge of electrical & control systems in an industrial industry;
  • Practical experience and demonstrated knowledge in manufacturing with a good understanding of conveyers, equipment, vendors and industry practices;
  • Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering degree;
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) is considered a strong asset;
  • Must be able to work on various projects simultaneously with minimal supervision and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
  • Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical documents including schematics and prints as well as interpret engineering tolerances;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Recap.

In your role you will:

  • You will be able to work from your home office anywhere in Alberta or BC when not traveling to site.
  • You will travel regularly based on project schedules to the three SBB mills in your company provided vehicle.
  • Approximately 70% of your time will be spent traveling.
  • Define, design, develop, and commission plant-wide control.
  • Design the control system’s technical specifications (control narratives, functional descriptions), system architecture drawings, PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI configuration (Rockwell Software, Wonderware, Ignition).
  • Prepare the technical portion of the detailed control engineering scope, inspection and test plans, construction scope of work, and commissioning plans.
  • Review and develop LV power systems, MCC layouts, VFD specifications and selection, cable schedules and electrical equipment installation.
  • Review system calculations and studies for electrical power systems including load flow, voltage drop, motor starting, short circuit studies, and relay coordination studies.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders to resolve technical issues across all phases of the project.
  • Provide construction supervision and lead commissioning and start-up activities during control system implementation.
  • Utilize project management tools for managing budget, project schedules, and scope of various sized projects.
  • Provide support to the project management with team scope change requests, and project estimations.
  • Provide remote and off-hour remote support during system failures or challenges during commissioning phases.
