As a Senior Estimator for our Melloy Industrial Services Inc. office in Nisku, Alberta, you will contribute to our team by:

  • Taking the lead in the development of an estimate bid submission.
  • Acting as a liaison with external consultants and project management organizations to estimate project budget requirements.
  • Reviewing special proposal requirements and making recommendations.
  • Organizing bid closing assignments to meet submission deadlines.
  • Conducting a detailed analysis of the contract documents and specifications, to determine overall project requirements (bonding, insurance, etc.) and identifying any associated risk factors, including the monitoring of published addendums that may alter the original scope of the project.
  • Completing final bid submission review and oversees the final tender document submission to the client on behalf of PCL (in conjunction with Chief Estimator as needed).
  • Interpreting isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings
  • Preparing quantity take-offs, reports, and presentations
  • Establishing a critical path schedule, including milestone dates and completion timelines to meet contract completion dates for projects
  • Assisting in developing work plans, crane pick plans, etc.
  • Identifying and analyzing areas within project documents that may be omitted or loosely coordinate, costing for same
  • Scouting for and reviewing new and/or existing sub-contractors

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline
  • 6 years of experience in industrial construction/maintenance cost estimating
  • General construction knowledge; understands specifications, methods and procedure
  • Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures
  • Experience estimating multiple self-perform work disciplines and overall knowledge of eachAbility to work in a busy team environment
  • Attention to detail and the ability to creatively solve problems
  • Strong computer skills; especially well versed with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Good workload management
  • Desire to take on challenges
