As an Estimator for our BC Region District office located in Kelowna, BC, you will contribute to our team by:

  • Conducting detailed analysis of contract documents (isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings) and specifications for large hard bid / lump sum and construction management projects to determine overall project requirements (bonding, insurance, etc.).
  • Takes ownership of medium estimates or a component of larger estimates and is accountable for that specific work scope.
  • Performs conceptual quantity take-offs, to support construction management and design-build projects.
  • Identifies productivity impacts: weather, shifts, labor availability, site constraints, and operating facility associated risk factors, including monitoring of published addenda that may alter original project scope.
  • Establishes a critical path schedule, including milestone dates and completion timelines to meet contract completion dates for medium-to-large projects.
  • Completes full quantity take-off of all labor, equipment, and materials for medium to- large scopes
  • Captures and understands trade scopes, and communicates gaps / missing information.
  • Prices productivity impacts: weather, shifts, location, labor availability, site constraints, operating facility, etc.
  • Leads win strategy development.
  • Solicits competitive pricing from trade contractors and suppliers for pursuit support.
  • Updates lead estimator on scope (i.e., “will bid”).
  • Supports updating and maintenance of trade contractor database information.
  • Reads all bid documents for medium-to-large jobs pertaining to their discipline.
  • Reviews all bids, performs bid evaluation, and selects the best trade contractor pricing.
  • Uses contract terms to identify risks/opportunities associated with contract/project documents.
  • Stays current with means and methods and recognizes opportunities through innovation and willingness to accept ideas.
  • Liaises with external consultants and project management organizations to estimate project budget requirements and coordinates tender development process on behalf of clients.
  • Recognizes risks related to project-specific requirements, site, schedule, and market conditions /constraints.
  • Develops and maintains strong customer focused relationships with all stakeholders, specifically trade contractors for best price.

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
  • Gold Seal certification in estimating as asset (CDN).
  • 4 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating along with 6 months of on-site experience preferred.
  • Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $150 million in delivery model hard bid / lump sum, construction management / cost reimbursable / target price and/or design-build.
  • Experience with self-perform estimate and productivity understanding.
  • Design management experience (BLDG and CIVIL).
  • Knowledge of different construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines gained through site visits or on-site experience.
  • Able to use contract terms to identify risks/opportunities with contract/project documents.
  • Understands impact of market conditions, business trends, and competitors and able to apply such information to strengthen bid-win strategies.
  • Understands construction sequence and can produce a bar chart schedule; recognizes milestone date impacts.
  • Experience estimating multiple scopes and has a working knowledge of applicable products and systems.
  • Ability to converse with and solicit trades and comfortable with cold-calling.
  • Ability to actively contribute to team dynamics.
  • Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office
