Position Summary: This course examines current theory related to science and technology education and explores myriad strategies for effective planning, instruction, and assessment at the Junior/Intermediate level. Teacher Candidates will develop strategies to interpret the curriculum and engage students in meaningful activities that use skills of science and technology, explore the nature and relevance of science and technology, and build students’ understanding of their environment. Teacher Candidates will gain confidence in their ability to teach science and technology regardless prior knowledge and experience in these content areas. Course content for Teacher Candidates with subject teaching specialization in Science and Technology Education will emphasize leadership skills, higher levels of curriculum interpretation and implementation, and an enhanced emphasis on Intermediate curriculum and instruction up to and including grade 10.

Qualifications – Required: Master’s degree in education or related discipline; Bachelor of Education and/or K – 12 Teaching Certification; K – 12 teaching experience in Science.

Qualifications – Preferred or an asset: Doctoral degree in education or related discipline; post-secondary teaching experience in teacher education; Teaching science and technology in Ontario schools at the junior/intermediate level; School leadership experience in science education.
