Location: Lake Louise, AB

The Field Operations and Safety Manager (FOSM) will oversee a team of drivers committed to delivering exceptional client service in alignment with DTL’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Program. Successful relationship management is pivotal, involving addressing day-to-day concerns with clients and operators while exemplifying the values of operational excellence and team leadership. The FOSM plays a key role in promoting and implementing the Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Program, encompassing training and operations. Conducting investigations, collaborating with other departments, and ensuring consistent application and enhancement of DTL systems to surpass company, legislative, and client standards are core responsibilities. FOSMs take the lead in responding to safety and environmental incidents, overseeing spill remediation, comprehensive incident investigations and coordinating traffic control when necessary.

Employment Type: Full-Time Temporary

Compensation: $75,000 annually

Work Shift: 7 X 7 shift, meals and accommodations are included

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to make decisions lead organizational change
  • Exceptional customer service skills, being comfortable being forward facing with the client on a daily basis
  • A team player with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships within all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a fluctuating workload and set priorities to meet deadline
  • Knowledge in identifying hazards, analyzing safety information, and root cause analysis
  • Self-motivated, able to work with limited direction or supervision
  • Knowledge of applicable HSE regulations, codes, practices and standards
  • Strong computer skills are required; familiarity in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced and multi-tasking environment
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Traffic Safety Act and supporting transportation regulations is considered an asset

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate with customers, local partners, operations, maintenance, and training departments
  • Managing service levels to ensure that performance meet our customer’s operational requirements, developing contingency plans to accommodate their needs
  • Coordinate fleet with Maintenance and Operations daily. Ensuring we have active fleet for each day of work
  • Support the attraction and retention and training of qualified drivers
  • Perform various analyses of the division’s activities to ensure the division meets its financial and operational objectives, including KPI trends and root causes
  • Management of the day-to-day activities of drivers to ensure they meet both company standards as well as customer requirements. Be visible and actively participate in daily service delivery
  • Lead the implementation of HSE initiatives and processes to build an organization-wide safety culture
  • Serve as incident investigation team lead by taking on a command role in incident situations
  • Lead daily safety meetings and assist with on-site orientation sessions
  • Conduct, document and communicate Risk and Hazard assessments and daily route assessments
  • Ensure that personal protective equipment is used following manufacturer’s instructions as well as the company and client policies

Years of Experience:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role is required.

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-year Post-Secondary education or designation in Business Management, Logistics or Safety is preferred
  • Valid class 2Q or class 1 driver’s license with clean driving abstract
  • Experience in the transportation industry is considered an asset
  • Knowledgeable in coaching, motivational and adult education skills would be an asset
  • First Aid/CPR is considered an asset
  • Certificate in Incident and Accident Investigation, Hazard Management and/or Health & Safety Leadership is considered an asset
