JOB TITLE

Manager, Finance (Accounts Payable) (Corporate)

Permanent Full Time

Vancouver, BC

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Lead, mentor, train and develop staff
  • Manage staff workload to meet internal and external deadlines
  • Manage staff to internal service requirements
  • Manage interim and annual performance reviews for direct reports
  • Manage work and deliverables of team with full responsibility of corrective action when required
  • Effectively lead a high-performance team

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily operations of the finance corporate team
  • Accounts Payable
  • Corporate vendor invoices
  • Employee expense reports
  • PO matching
  • Credit card reconciliations
  • Vendor maintenance
  • Expense management system
  • Vendor payments (EFT, Wire, Cheques, Direct Debits, PayPal)
  • Sales Tax
  • Capital Assets
  • Prepaid expenses
  • Review journal entries to ensure transactions are entered into the accounting system accurately
  • Oversee period end close activities, including the preparation, review and approval of journal entries, account reconciliations, balance sheet analysis and running of reports
  • Ensure accuracy of financial data processed
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting
  • Compile financial data for ongoing management, government and stakeholder needs

Process Improvement and Internal Controls

  • Recommend, implement and control all policies and procedures related to financial and general administrative functions
  • Develop and execute on the process and procedures for continuous improvement
  • Identify and assess areas for process improvements and efficient workflows while ensuring adequate internal controls for company oversight
  • Document new and updated processes
  • Ensure a strong internal control environment and that controls are functioning

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Mitacs financial policies
  • Ensure compliance with all Government and Industry Contracts
  • CRA federal and provincial regulations as it pertains to sales tax

Audit

  • Review of year end audit working papers
  • Lead for financial statement audit as it relates to Mitacs Corporate transactions
  • Review of compliance audit working papers
  • Field questions and requests from auditors

Other

  • Key contact for cross-functional communication and working groups
  • Respond to queries and requests from internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

TRAINING

  • CPA designation or equivalent recognized accounting designation required

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 + years of progressive accountancy experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Finance & Operations considered an asset

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Supervisory experience with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others
  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral – with all levels of stakeholders
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing and dynamic work environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are essential
  • Indirect tax experience is desirable but not a requirement
  • High level of business acumen and strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to make recommendations and communicate with senior management
  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional working relationships
