Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Manager or designate, the Maintenance Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks relating to various specialty trades that include, but are not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical. In addition to carrying out general maintenance duties on a rotating shift basis within various Nova Scotia Health Authority facilities as directed by site supervisor, the Maintenance Worker will be required to perform building quality assurance rounds, as well as tasks in the areas of construction, installation, inspection of structure, and mechanical and equipment troubleshooting and repair. The Maintenance Worker will be required to abide by the NSHA policies and procedures, and is required to maintain record keeping in relation to maintenance duties including work orders, material requisitions, and inspection forms etc.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12.
  • Certificate from a one-year community college technical trade training in one of the following disciplines: electrical, plumbing, welding, refrigeration, or carpentry, OR two years related maintenance experience in a commercial or industrial setting performing semi-skilled trade work.
  • Fourth Class Power Engineering ticket is an asset.
  • Travel to other sites may be required. Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid NS Driver’s License is required.
  • Knowledge of required tools, equipment, and materials, and ability to use them effectively.
  • Capable and willing to learn new skills and to participate in on-the-job training in order to work on specialized equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, customers and staff of other shops/departments.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Permanent Full-Time position, 75 hours bi-weekly.
